Waivers & Safety

Yes - it's the boring bit......  But definitely the most important bit too!

We really want to make sure everyone who visits our site has a good time and leaves in the same condition they arrived please.

Your safety and the wellbeing of our staff, visitors and climbers is a top priority.

YOUR SAFETY IS OUR CONCERN BUT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, so please read up on what you need to do before and during your visit.

Thank You.

Before your VISIT

Have you registered with us?

Everyone participating in any of our activities needs to be registered with us. Over 18s need to register under their own account and cannot be registered by another adult. Under 18s need to be registered by a parent or guardian.

Have you signed a Waiver?

All participants need to have a valid waiver, and once signed these are valid for 1 year. These can only be signed online after participants have been registered. Adults are responsible for signing their own waiver and waivers for any U18s they are responsible for. NOTE: THIS IS SEPARATE TO REGISTRATION, AND MUST BE SIGNED ONLINE

There are a couple of steps to complete so please read the instructions carefully.

what are you planning to do AT FAR PEAK?

If you are looking to climb on the big walls, either on top rope, lead and/or auto belays, you must be over 18 and able to pass a belay check on top rope with us. If you can't, you must be accompanied and supervised by an over 18 who can pass a belay check. If you cannot meet this criteria, please book an instructor led session to climb on our big walls.

If you are planning to boulder with us or use the low ropes obstacle course, you do not need to book in advance - just ensure your waiver forms are signed before approaching reception to buy your day ticket.

Good Practice Guidelines

If we listed the don'ts in climbing, we could be here forever! Instead, we prefer to instill a culture of safe practice here at Far Peak with some Good Practice Guidelines for everyone.

Good Practice Guidelines can be found at the base of each climbing facility AND on our Waivers.

If you are new to climbing....

Please ask our team for some expert advice on how your visit can be as safe and as fun as possible.  We will happily recommend and advise on the best path to achieve this, not only with us, but at similar centres across the UK.  You may not be able to use ALL of our facilities straight away, but please understand - our team may not be able to provide the required amount of supervision or instruction at that moment.  There is normally something you can do instead while we advise you on a plan.

If you are a 'Competent Climber'.....

Anyone planning to belay for another climber or use auto belays will be asked to participate in a belay check on top rope if they haven't done so in the last year. Successful 'climbers' are then inducted to our facilities.

They are permitted to use ALL of the centres OPEN facilities and supervise up to 2 novice climbers to do the same, including lead climbing, top rope climbing, bouldering, Auto Belays and our Low Ropes Course.

  • WHAT IS A COMPETENT CLIMBER?

Our qualified staff define a Competent Climber as:

    1. A person who can demonstrate safe working practices when belaying and climbing on a top rope.
    2. A person who clearly understands the risks involved when climbing and can manage these risks for themselves and any novice climbers they are supervising

    Skills include:

    • Correctly fitting safe and recognised climbing equipment to themselves and others
    • Using a safe and recognised climbing knot to tie in
    • Adopting a safe technique to belay their climbing partner
    • Bouldering with diligence and respect for other users
    • Understanding the additional risks associated with the use of auto-belays and specific climbing equipment (lead climbing, training room apparatus etc).
